Dancehall selector arrested in major St Andrew police raid
An emerging dancehall selector, well known across the Corporate Area entertainment scene, was taken into custody on Thursday morning during a major police operation in the St Andrew North Division.
Police sources say members of the division carried out coordinated raids at several locations shortly after daybreak.
During the sweep, investigators searched the selector's Lyndale Avenue, Kingston 20 home, where they reportedly seized an illegal firearm. According to the police, a black point three eight zero pistol was found inside a bedroom occupied by the selector. He was arrested and taken into custody.
The police team later moved into sections of One Hundred Lane in St Andrew, where they reportedly found a quantity of assorted ammunition. Fourteen rounds were recovered, but no arrest was made in connection with that find. Detectives say the ammunition discovery forms part of ongoing investigations into gang activity and the flow of illegal weapons in the division.
Senior investigators say Thursday's operations were carried out as part of a broader effort to disrupt criminal networks operating in several communities under the division's watch.
Superintendent Randy Sweeney, head of the St Andrew North Division, confirmed the operation and urged members of the public to share information about guns, gangs or gunmen.
The selector's identity is being withheld pending further investigations. He is expected to be interviewed by detectives in the coming days, after which charges may be laid.
Police say additional operations are planned as efforts continue to target illegal guns, ammunition and individuals believed to be driving violence in the area. The Constant Spring Criminal Investigation Branch is probing the incidents.
